If you're dreaming and planning on where you're going to go in Algonquin Park next summer you may want to start by deciding what Algonquin Park Access Point your are going to start from. Many people start from a point off of Highway #60 that runs through the park, because it's really easy to get to. Unfortunately many other people also have the same plan and sometimes the access points off of Highway #60, especially the Canoe Lake (#5) and Smoke Lake (#6) ones, can be very busy with many people all heading in the same direction. Rock Lake (#9) is a wonderful alternative if you still want to pick an access point off of Highway #60 for easy access. Located off Hwy 60 at kilometer 40.3. Rock lake is a favorite day trip put-in. With an easy river paddle from the put-in to the open lake with huge rock cliffs This canoe trip route is a favorite with many day trippers. The Booth Rock hiking trail is also a popular spot for day hikes with a grand view. Historic Barclay Estate is a great spot for lunch on the hike. Permits are available at the access point. For a longer canoe trip the loop through Lake Louisa and Welcome and a nice extended multi-day trip option.
Tim River (#2), Magnettawan (#3) and Rain Lake (#4) are favorites for people who really want to get away from the crowds, these access points located on the west side of the park, just up Highway #11 past our Huntsville Store, are a secret that a few people realize. Less people, scenic lakes, rivers and marshes and wonderful wildlife viewing opportunities make this truly my favorite place to visit in Algonquin Park. Each day traveled takes you further into the heart of Algonquin and away from civilization. Truly a destination for those wanting to get away from the crowds. Brent on Cedar Lake (#27) is truly for those wanting to explore parts of Algonquin Park that not too many others see. Bountiful fishing, larger lakes and grand rivers, like the Petawawa and Nipissing, welcome the true adventure seeker to these more remote regions of Algonquin Park. There's even a Meteorite Crater on the access road into Brent that features a hiking trail to the base of this 400 million year old feature. Our most remote base (the Brent Store) is located right on the shores of Cedar Lake. FREE Algonquin Park Canoe Trip Planning: |
