Custom Guided Canoe Trips

Custom guided wilderness canoe trip has been a specialty of Algonquin Outfitters since 1961. A guided canoe trip is ideal for families or groups of friends seeking the extra level comfort that comes with having an experienced, personable and knowledgeable guide accompany them.

Each trip is custom-designed to the expectations, experience, abilities and interests of the client. A guided trip allows the "first-timer" to comfortably experience what, for many, can be an intimidating and easily underestimated wilderness environment. People with previous canoe-camping or wilderness travel experience find that having a guide along helps them build new skills and possibly undertake a more challenging route than they would on their own. Families discover that having a guide there to take care of the "nitty-gritty" details of the trip allows them more time to enjoy and share the special wilderness experiences found in Algonquin Park.

If this sounds like the trip for you, choose the dates that suit you best and our Super Deluxe Complete Outfitting package. To check availability, contact us either by telephone (1-800-469-4948, 705-635-2243) or the on-line reservation form below. We will help you from start to finish, from route planning, booking permits and menu selection, right through to the day you return from the trip, with big smiles all around.

Role of the Guide
An Algonquin Park guided canoe trip is one of many different kinds of adventure travel experiences available today. In the "old days," a guide's role was relatively simple: expert at everything and performer of all hard work. These days, we anticipate that clients will want (and expect) to take an active role in the experience and learn the techniques of paddling and canoe-camping. The modern guide's job is primarily one of leadership and education and, most importantly, the guide is ultimately responsible for the safety and comfort of the group. The physical fitness, skill level and nature of the group will determine how much, or how little, direction and leadership is required. We expect our guides to teach people what they need to know, when they need to know it. Algonquin Outfitters guides encourage clients to try their hand at all aspects of the experience, from route finding to washing dishes. Our hope is that your skills and confidence will improve, so that on your next trip, you can go without a guide!
