Algonquin Outfitters and QR Codes

What do those crazy black and white boxes mean?
Here is how you use them:

  1. You'll need a smart phone
  2. Download a QR Code reader App
  3. Launch the App on your smart phone
  4. Scan the QR Code
  5. Enjoy live content on your smart phone

Keep an eye out for QR Codes on our:

  • newspaper & magazine ads
  • product, outfitting and rental brochures
  • on in store products like Columbia, Marmot & Canada Goose
  • community store fronts
  • and more

QR Codes were created by Toyota subsidiary Denso-Wave in 1994, the QR code is one of the most popular types of two-dimensional barcodes. QR is the abbreviation for Quick Response, as the creator intended the code to allow its contents to be decoded at high speed (Wikipedia). They are very popular in places like Japan but are just now catching on as a Marketing connection in North America. Algonquin Outfitters have been using QR Codes since the end of 2010. Expect to see them in many of our ads, on several products we carry, in our brochures and maybe even as exclusive special offers for mobile phone users.

Our ad for this years Banff Mountain Film Festival included a QR Code that, with just one click of your smart phone, took you to the Algonquin Theatre's website where you were presented with the opportunity to purchase tickets for the show. We also ran a special that we posted in the form of a QR Code on our store front that offered anyone who decoded it a $20 discount on a $45 Smart Phone Protection case for a limited time. So keep an eye out for these crazy black & white boxes as they main contain a special offer that you won't want to miss.
